This tour combines a proper riding tour with 5 riding days of 18 to 30 km rides along lovely routes in splendid green countryside with comfort Hotel accommodation. During the ride we enjoy marvelous views of the Volcano Hekla and the glaciers Langjökull and Eyjafjallajökull. We ride into the uninhabited wilderness north of the romantic valley Tungufellsdalur and follow the mighty salmon river Stóra-Laxá sided by fantastic basalt collums on wonderful tölting tracks. Accommodation is offered in double/twin or single rooms with private sh/wc at the cozy Icelandair Hotel Fludir. Its fine restaurant, which uses only locally sourced, mainly organic produce and meats and relaxing bar are the perfect places to spend your evenings. Within minutes, you can be soaking in a hot tub in the beautiful hotel garden underneath the Midnight Sun during summer or the Northern lights in autumn. The Hotel is situated in walking distance to the natural hot springs of the Secret Lagoon. The lagoon´s natural setting and steam rising into the air gives the place a magical feeling. The warm water holds 38-40 Celsius all year. In the lagoon´s surroundings there are several geothermal springs and a little Geysir which erupts every 5 minutes, showing off for the guests relaxing in the hot spring. Lots of activities such a River Rafting or a thrilling ride on the the River Jet can be arranged from the hotel doors. Join our team and our wonderful well trained soft tölting horses with great temperament.

Detailed description:
1st day : Arrival – Fákasel Horse Park – Icelandair Hotel Flúðir
Pick up at 6 pm at BSÍ bus terminal in Reykjavík. When arriving in Iceland on the same day, please make sure that your estimated arrival time at Keflavík International Airport is no later than 4:30 pm! An airport bus www.flybus.is offers a convenient shuttle directly from Keflavík Airport to the BSÍ bus terminal. The city center with cafés, shops and museums is within easy walking distance from the BSÍ. Luggage can be safely stored for a small fee at the BSÍ bus terminal. At 6 pm private transfer to the Fákasel Horse Park where you will enjoy the Legends of Sleipnir – Horse Theater Performance. It employs employs large-scale multimedia and special effects to weave together history, old Norse mythology and exhibition riding to demonstrate the Icelandic horse’s beauty and uniqueness. The result is a magical theatrical experience that emphasizes the Icelandic horse’s special features and pays tribute to its historical relationship with humans throughout Iceland’s history. After the show we invite you to a 3 course menu in the the rustic Fákasel Restaurant. After dinner our drive takes us through lovely countryside to the cozy Icelandair Hotel Flúðir, situated in a small village in beautiful farming countryside of Hrunamannahreppur district, perfectly situated for long walks, visits to the local pool with Jacuzzi and sauna and the natural hot springs of the Secret Lagoon.
2nd day : Day ride from the Farm Syðra-Langholt to the Secret Lagoon
After a plentiful breakfast buffet at the hotel transfer to the farm Syðra-Langholt for your first ride. After an introduction into the safety issues, tack and gaits of the Icelandic horse we set off for a lovely gentle ride over good tölting tracks. Our route takes you through rolling hills and idyllic farmland with young horses, sheep and cattle grazing on endless green fields. If you think of typical Icelandic farm life – here it is! We stop at the natural hot springs of the Secret Lagoon. The pool´s steam rising into the air gives the place a magical feeling. The warm water keeps a temperature of 38-40° Celsius all year round. Close by there is even a little Geysir which erupts every 5 minutes, showing off for the guests relaxing in the hot spring. Changing rooms with showers are on site. After a long and relaxing bath we saddle up again and ride back to the farm for a coffee and a last hug for your new four–legged furry friend! During the ride we find a beautiful spot for our alfresco pick nick lunch. (riding distance ca. 18-20 km) Transfer back to the hotel and evening for individual programe (please check our list of optional add-ons below).
3rd day : Countryside ride with Lunch at cozy Café and ceramic studio Bragginn
After breakfast return to farm Syðra-Langholt for another day ride from the farm grounds. Today we ride over the mighty Langholtsfjall mountain with wonderfull views to the infamous volcano Hekla and its even more dramatic neighbouring glacier Eyjafjallajökull who managed to ground all of Europe´s air traffic in 2010! We ride underneath the green slopes of Miðfell mountain and stop for a lovely Lunch at Bragginn café and ceramic Studio housed in the families old potato storage. The menu is based on the Slow Food concept, using mostly locally grown and sourced ingredients from neighboring farmers as the area is a vibrant production area of fresh and delicious food. We continue along the banks of the great salmon river Stóra-Laxá back to the farm. (riding distance ca. 18- 20 km). Transfer back to the hotel and evening for individual programe (please check our list of optional additions).
4th day : Ride towards the highland along the Stóra-Laxá canyon
After breakfast return to the farm and start for our highland adventure. Today we ride underneath the basalt columns of Hrepphólar along the canyon of the Stóra-Laxá river. We stop for an outdoor lunch at the romantic Hrunaréttir sheep paddock, used for separeting the sheep in autumn when returning from the highland. We continue our ride over the mountains to Hvítárdalur farm where we leave the horses for the night. The riders return after a short drive back to cozy hotel beds and open air jacuzzi at Hotel Flúðir. (ca. 25- 30 km ride). Evening for individual programe (please check our list of optional add-ons).
5th day : Highlandride over Hrunaheiði plateau to abandoned farm Kluftir
Today is going to be a wonderful ride into the uninhabited wilderness north of the romantic valley of Tungufellsdalur. We climb on a high mountain plateau and follow the narrow tracks made only by sheep and horses. We enjoy wonderful views of the wild green mountainside, follow little creeks with spring water and surely get a wonderful feeling of mountain freedom! We pass the abandoned farm of Kluftir and leave our horses at Kaldbak farm. (riding distance ca. 30 km) Short transfer back to the hotel after a truly adventurous ride! 6th day : Return to the farm along Salmon river Laxá
After breakfast and check-out at the hotel return to the horses for a last day´s ride along the river Stóra-Laxá. We stop at the little local museum Samansafnið along the way and take a peek into the old days of farming life in Iceland. We continue our ride until we return again to Bragginn café for a sumptous goodbye coffee and cake treat by our wonderful local hosts. Return to the farm and transfer back to Reykjavík. (riding distance ca. 25 km ).
